Hori 5 pellet mode back-drafts in high winds; stove overheats. How to prevent?
Q:We are using the hori 5 in pellet mode on ourannual ice fishing trip where we sleep on the iceLast night we had the wind blow harder than wehad previously and caused more back draft.Causing the pellets to burn hotter and fasterand getting the stove extremely hot. What isthe recommend way to combat the draft fromhigh winds?
A:When the wind outside passes through the chimney’s wind guard, it increases the negative pressure in the furnace tubes, causing the combustion to accelerate. At this point, you can first adjust the heat output of the pellet hopper by turning it towards the ‘min’ setting. If the heat is still too high even at ‘min’, you can further reduce it by adjusting the chimney control valve accordingly.
