Recommended clearance space around stove.

I have a tent with a stove jack on a slanted part of the roof, and am concerned about the heat given off by the stove harming the tent material. Is there a recommended distance to keep things from the stove during operation? Are there any recommended products to purchase or use to help shield the tent wall and or floor from the heat given off by the stove?

Please see photo of the tent and jack below:

Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out. If you’re concerned about heat damaging your tent material, here are our general recommendations:

Install a heat-resistant stove jack / flashing at the chimney exit point on the roof. This helps protect the tent fabric where the pipe passes through.

Keep the stove at least 40 cm (about 16 inches) away from the tent walls.

If you cannot maintain that distance, use a heat shield / fireproof barrier between the stove and the tent wall.

For the floor, place the stove on a non-combustible mat, metal plate, or fireproof pad.

You can find suitable heat shields, stove jacks, and fireproof mats on Amazon by searching terms like “tent stove heat shield,” “stove jack flashing,” or “fireproof mat for wood stove.”

Also, please always use a carbon monoxide alarm inside the tent when the stove is running.
